Location: CAL4WD Seirra Trek (Foredyce Creek Trail - Cisco Grove) Date: 8/8/09 Participants: 30 and Pat, Mike Seibold, Ken and Kyle Herlihy with friend, Richard and Catherine and friend, Rick and Cheryl, Dwight. Mike and I headed out in the late morning on Thursday and joined Pat and 30 for a quick bite. Mike and I left 30 and Pat to battle the traffic on hyway 80 with nice weather until we hit just east of Auburn. The weather got cold pretty quick and started to rain. By the time we made it to the Shell at Nyac I was pretty wet as was my gear since I had the top off. Mike on the other hand had a jacket on and the top up. We rolled into base camp checked in and went up to section D at Cisco Grove. For those of you who participated last year we had the same camp site. Dwight and Richard had already set up camp when Mike and I arrived. As the afternoon went on we had on and off showers with very cool August weather. Rick and Cheryl were camping with our friends from the Mendo club. Dinner on Thursday night was very cold and wet. It rained very hard during dinner. Rick and Cheryle did the committee run on Thursday without incident all the way through. Friday started out very early for our group as we were on for cooking breakfast. The diffierence this year from years past is the breakfast started at 5 am. Apparently they have had complaints from the registrants that just becasuse they are staging early for the trail does not mean they shouldn't get a hot meal. So we made lots of scrambled eggs, fried ham and pancakes. Rick even cooked bacon for the salad bar for that evenings dinner. Later that afternoon we headed toward the water crossing by winch hill 3. Once Rick crossed the river he hit a rock that did some damage to his brakes on the left rear. After a quick assesment we all turned around and headed back for camp and dinner. Friday night Dwight built a nice campfire and we decided that since Kyle and his friend were not going to be getting into camp until the early hours of the morning and we had all been up early for breakfast duties. That we would not stage with the Trek folks and go out on the trail at 8 am. We figured we would catch up, which we did well before winch hill 1. I hiked on the trail so I could take pictures. I was ahead of our group before getting to winch hill 1 and found a hitch receiver safe that had broken off a rig with a Jeep key/Keyfob as well as $121.00. I reported it to one of the trail committee members as well as had it announced Saturday night just before the raffle. Bonnie is going to have it put on the Cal 4 Wheel web site. I told her that if it is not claimed within 30 days I will donate the moey to the association. Mike, Kyle, Dwight and Richard all did very well with the only incident being a leaking bead for Kyle about 2 or 3 miles into the trail. Mike was winched once at the top on winch hill 1 by Richard for about 5 feet and Kyle was winched twice also on winch hill 1 by Richard, both times for just a few feet. Saturday night was a great dinner with our friends of the Mendo club doing the cooking. I guess about the only other thing that I have to say is I don't know where our membership was. When we first starting talking about Trek we had more than half of the club committing to attending and helping with Breakfast. We ended up with 6 member families. Thankfully our friends to the North of us in the Mendo club came in to help us with breakfast Friday morning. We only had 10 people from our club which was not enough to cook and serve all of the attendees. So special thanks to the Mendo Club for all of your help on Friday and a great dinner on Saturday night. I also need to mention that on Saturday Trek did not have a breakfast crew, Cheryl, Rick, Pat and 30 were there helping out to make sure that everyone enjoyed a hot meal, Thank you!!!! Sunday we packed up and headed for home. Hen Herlihy Click HERE for pictures
